Educational Development Plan
Genesee ISD is the statewide leader in career and educational development planning. High school course selection in Genesee County has moved to a more sophisticated level with the utilization of
the web-based Education Development Plan (EDP).

Beginning in 8th grade, the EDP program allows students to plan their high school classes according to the career pathway in which they have an interest. Each pathway includes examples of specific careers, levels of education required for each, relevant courses in school, fast-growing occupations and personal characteristics related to success. This information helps students see how school subjects relate to training beyond high school and the world of work. It also helps students examine their interests, abilities and goals—and how these relate to their chosen career goal. By having this information available to them, students can then select courses that not only prepare them for high school graduation, but for additional education, training and employment beyond high school.
Students may also create a web-based portfolio that can include their resume, examples of school projects, letters of recommendation, grade reports and pictures. This portfolio can then be shared electronically with college admissions officials, potential employers and other audiences determined by the student.
Because the electronic EDP is web-based, students and parents can access the site from any computer connected to the Internet. For more information on the electronic EDP, students may contact their high school counseling office or GISD at (810) 591-4500.
The Regional Chamber aligns its career preparation activities to support the GISD’s Educational Development Plan used by area schools and students. By partnering together, business and education offer Genesee County students unique opportunities to prepare themselves for their future careers. |
