SYI RECEIVES GRANT FROM THE
RUTH MOTT FOUNDATION
(Flint, Michigan, July 25, 2008) The Ruth Mott Foundation Board of Trustees has awarded a $50,000 grant to the Genesee Chamber Foundation for the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce Summer Youth Initiative (SYI).
The Ruth Mott Foundation is committed to cultivating community vitality, nurturing hope and pride. Funding from the Foundation will help the SYI and TeenQuest programs to continue to educate and train area teens for paid seasonal employment and leadership position within Genesee County nonprofit and for-profit businesses. SYI focuses on Genesee County youths who have completed or participate in the TeenQuest pre-employability training. Teens 14-18 years of age, and currently enrolled in grades 9-12 in a school within Genesee County or in a home school are eligible.
“The Summer Youth Employment Initiative provides youths ages 14–18 with opportunities to develop valuable employment, leadership and social skills that are paramount to their healthy growth and development,” said Sylvester Jones, Jr., Program Officer for the Ruth Mott Foundation. “The program is aligned with the Ruth Mott Foundation mission of nurturing hope and pride. This is a wise investment and it will pay dividends for many, many years into the future.”
