GRCC OFFERS CAREER PATHWAY CONFERENCE ON HUMAN SERVICES
FOR GENESEE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

(Flint, Michigan, February 12, 2008)  On March 14, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. a Career Pathway Conference focusing on Human Services will be held at the Mott Community College Regional Technology Center for Genesee County students in grades 9-12. Offered by the Regional Chamber the conference is designed toward students’ interests and emerging careers, as well as assisting students in taking the necessary steps to success. This event will offer sessions on careers in such fields as education, youth and family service specialists, law enforcement and counseling.

The event will provide:

• Interactive, hands-on sessions led by area employers
• Information on college, technical and certification programs
• Pre-college, leadership and training opportunities
• Information on how to finance your college education

The conference is aligned with the six Michigan Career Pathways and supports area students' Education Development Plans (EDP), which provide interested students with an ongoing record of career planning that will help guide them in selecting careers that align with their aptitude, interests and strengths. Additional Career Pathway Conferences and other career-related events will be held throughout this 2007-08 school year.

“These conferences are an excellent way for high school students to become better informed about furthering their education and the financial assistance to do so,” explained Rhetta Hunyady, Group Vice President, Operations and Employer Education & Training Connection. “They also help them explore potential career opportunities and make connections within those fields. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the conferences and participate in this great opportunity.”
