Flint’s Sloan and Longway receive honor
August 20, 2008
A distinguished honor for Flint’s Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium, the American Association of Museums gave them accreditation. That puts them in an elite group that makes up about 10% of museums. It took 2 years to complete the process. Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce CEO Tim Herman says people should be very proud to have Sloan and Longway as part of their community. "The Sloan Longway is a true contributor to the community and really is a significant partner in sharing the vision to rebuild this community."
The accreditation process includes an in-depth review of all aspects of how the museum functions, from the upkeep of the actual exhibits to the marketing of the places.
During the process, representatives from the association spend 2 days at the facility to look over everything and talk with the employees. They are up for accreditation every 5 to 10 years.
